I keep losing my cherry. Help appreciated.

    I've just thought - I also cut them in half. Which I guess makes them lighter and therefore less prone to sinking. Maybe it's got nothing to do with washing/dusting/glaze or no glaze, and more to do with the actual weight of the cherries?


    Ah: clever stuff! Why have I never thought of that before??? I've always lamented the way gravity seems to bring them down yet it's never occurred to me to reduce the weight first . . . I'm going to bake another cherry cake today, so let's see what Newtonian Law achieves, this time around. Thanks again, TS. :T

    My aunt used to add a small pinch of baking powder to the flour, which chemically was sort-of cheating.
    What I can't recall was whether or not it *worked*.

    Are you using 'marg' or butter? I find butter gives a stiffer batter which holds fruit better. Maybe tweak your recipe to firm it up.
