uSoft Office install query

Options
I have several version of Office progs installed (under win 10 pro 64 bit) to ensure full compatibility with all files since before 2003 and I also have licensed copies of some progs only from the earlier versions so wish to keep installed all I have. At least one prog installs anew when the prog is opened (might be more) and I am looking for a way to sort that.

To date I have failed so need some help to find a fix. Typically the problem occurs when opening Visio 2003 when I get the message "Installing" but I have had and used it for many a year without issue so it seems to only be since installing 2007 office package. 2003 version is the only Visio prog I own of that particular prog.

Just checked and the Setup Apps modify settings under 'features' and 'install on first use' shows, no doubt the problem, but after changing all to 'run from my computer' it does not change anything straight away or after a reboot.

Now I do remember there used to be a few probs when different versions of office were installed together depending upon order of install but cannot see if that has any bearing on my problem.

OK there are newer versions available but for several reasons do not want to go down that route - and it might not fix the problem anyway!

Can anybody advise me how to fix the problem? It only really impacts on loading time (as far as I can tell) and closing when it just crashes out prior to reloading unless I save/close the open file first (unless that is a separate problem) so not the end of the world!! just annoying!

Just a guess, but is Office/Visio set up with the correct installation path...?

You might be able to check/change the installation path via the settings. Otherwise, I'd scan the registry and correct the any installation paths there.

Quick check on Google and visio 2003 has major difficulties running under Win 10 assuming that you can get it installed in the first place even using compatibility mode.
  • Ok, how do I check the install path?
It did install and run ok for me, above issues excepted!

If the installer ran, then it's probably fine.

As I say, you might be able to check the installer location in the program settings (i.e. open MS Visio, and see if there is an option to specify the installation path).

Otherwise, the path should be in the registry. I'd navigate to the section below, and browse through. It should be pretty obvious when you see it.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\...
