Ebay - item can't be remove in shopping basket. Now an unpaid item case.

Options
A few days ago, I have an ebay item in my shopping basket. Went to the page where it has the 'Pay Now' button. Decided not to buy it now and the item can't remove it from my basket, so I logged off. Today, I logged back in and the item is still in my basket (can't remove it as it says I'm committed to buy the item). Also, an email I got mentions that I've got a case about an unpaid item.

Not sure what to do now.

Please advise.

  • It sounds like you've bought but not paid. If you want it then pay for it, if not then message the seller and ask to cancel. The seller has followed the correct procedure and hopefully will cancel if you ask, although that's not a guarantee and you could now end up with a non payment strike.

Thanks for the advice. I've messaged the seller asking to cancel it.

Also, why wouldn't they cancel it? They haven't even dispatch the item anyway.

In the first place, I just clicked the 'Buy It Now' button, and then it went to the checkout page with payment option selections including a 'Pay Now' button. Decided I don't need it, so logged out, but no option to remove it from the basket.

I'm not sure there are many sellers who would cancel a sale once an unpaid case is open, I don't on principle.

OP either pay or ignore, if you ignore then you get an unpaid strike against you which on its own is not a problem , the only problem arises if you get a second within a year as then many sellers would have you blocked automatically from buying.

    I agree, hence my advice.

A seller cannot cancel without punishment in this situation. Their best way forward is to file a Non Paying Buyer report against you. As per soolin's post, some wouldn't change it to a cancellation now but hopefully you may get lucky.
