Paying a cheque in using a phone

I gave up using the Halifax app. I could get a perfectly in focus copy using just the camera, just couldn't get it an in focus picture using the app. If you could just take your own picture and submit it (and I would even offer to type in the sort code and account number and cheque number too) then that would be sensible ..
Took less time actually going into branch and paying it in, but I'm fortunate in having a local branch.
I've actually had 2 personal cheques in the last year (very annoying) and had to pay in a few business cheques where I work also. I think banks should discourage companies from issuing cheques, maybe make them more expensive to process for the issuer!Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
Tried it for the first time today using the Halifax app. It took a bit of fiddling about to get it properly aligned but managed it eventually. Just waiting for it to clear now...0

I managed to get the BOS scanner to work a few month ago, today however in gloomy winter (despite being mid day) the app reports not enough light (even on window sill).
I think the app testers need to test it on a winters day!0 -
I have paid in 3 cheques to my Halifax account today no issues at all. A lot more reliable than the hole in the wall which never seems to work.
My son regularly pays in cheques to his Lloyds account and has had no issues.0 -
Used the Halifax app to pay a cheque in quite effortlessly last week. I think the dark background may be the key to success.0

I used the HSBC banking app a couple of months ago to pay in my first cheque ever online. Was so chuffed I'd saved a tedious trip to the branch. I was meticulously careful following the app steps, taking one photo each of front and back. To see that next day the transaction had been quickly rejected and funds returned to cheque issuer. No reason given so lengthy phone calls, discovered that the paying bank had reclaimed it as a duplicate presented cheque. Yet I'd presented no similar cheque in the past. Mere coincidence that this is the 1st time I'd ever had a 'duplicate cheque' allegation?
So finally, a trip to the branch to physically pay in the replacement cheque sent by the original issuer (after more chasing). That worked.0 -

I guess that is a risk. I paid one in with Lloyds the other week, wrote 'deposited' on the back as requested, only to get an error message that the process had failed.
I was wary about trying again, as the rear picture would now show it as 'deposited', but I took it to the bank and they were quite happy to accept it.
That's been the only issue in a dozen deposits.0 -
Put it on a dark background and have some patience.
