Help needed with Ovo smart meter
Comments
-
Sorry for duplicate thread
Since I changed from Npower to Ovo to supply my gas and electric my bills have rocketed .
I live in a one bedroom bungalow , by myself , no cooker , washing machine or tumble drier as my sister lives 2 doors away so at 7.45 every morning I go there to get my breakfast ,dinner , wash and dry clothes , so apart from lights tv sky box and computer oh and kettle I don’t think I use much electricity
With Npower I was being billed approx £40 /months . When I changed to Ovo they said my bills would save me just over £100/year , since smart meter was installed in March my bills started at £48/months and now I’ve had a letter saying they want to put my direct debit upto £100/month
My tariffs should be
Better energy (all online )
12.28p/kilowatt/day
23.50 /day standing charge
I’ve check serial number of electric meter which is same as online
In taken photos of the display on the meter which from what I can tell don’t seem to match up with any of the numbers above
I don’t know how to upload pics to here but display sequence straight from meter pressing “9” are
Using now
0002698.0 kw
Cost now
00424.77
Can anyone make any sense of this please0 -

Since you swopped in March 2018. This looks OK .
£424.77 / 2698 is 15.7p. Allowing for standing charges and VAT this is in line with your tariff and a DD of £43 a month. This covers a summer period when you consumption will be comparatively low.
You are now entering a winter period and your consumption will be rising.
I don't know what your annual consumption with nPower was but March - December is 270 units a month and allowing for an increase in winter perhaps 4000 units in the year is likely ?
I think OVO are trying to ensure that come the end of fix in March you are not in debt and the new DD should ensure this.
PS I see you have been trying to PM me but it seems to be blocked - probably at my end.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
for gas and electric combined they put up the direct debit payments to £45 then I got an email around 2 months ago to say they thought it best if I upped dd to £100 /monthBtw the gas metre is fine I got no problem with it0

Did you check the difference in tariff prices, before you joined OVO, or did you take their word that they will be cheaper?0

I don’t use much gas as I’m not home during day and in winter only have central heating on as needed and yes I was stupid taking ovo’s word that they where cheaper . I won’t be that dumb next time0
