Tom-Tom updating other TomTom

HI
I got a Tom-Tom 5100 about 18 months ago and all was good, then my partner got a new job that involved a lot of driving I bought a Tom-Tom 5200 for my partner. I had read on the Tom-Tom web site that I could have more than one navigation device linked to my Tom-Tom account. Everything was working well I could use my Tom-Tom in the car and he could use the other Tom-Tom in his van. About a year ago one of the Tom-Toms stopped working, I spoke to Tom-Tom and they said send it for repair, I did and a few days later I was told that Tom-Tom were replacing the broken Tom-Tom. The new Tom-Tom arrived and I had to transfer the services and put it on to my Tom-Tom account. A few days later my partner was out in his van I needed to go out in the car told the Tom-Tom where I wanted to go and went. I got a phone call from my partner saying his Tom-Tom had changed the destination it was going to it was going to where I was going. He then changed the destination to where he wanted to go and my destination changed to where my partner was going. I thought I had done something wrong when setting up the new Tom-Tom.
I contacted Tom-Tom about this problem and they told me
"We would also like to inform you that this is a software issue & this may persist even after replacing the device. Having said that we have escalated this issue to our technical team & they are working on this but we are unable to provide a timeframe for the resolution, once this is resolved you will receive an update for your device."
This has now changed to this is not an issue this is how it was designed to work all the navigation devices you have in one account will all go to the same destination. I asked who would want to have up to 10 devices going to the same place I was told a truck company that wanted all its trucks to go to one place or if you have a large family and you are all going to meet up. Our technical team that have been working on this problem for 2 years have a way to get round this issue put each Tom-Tom on separate email accounts and have 2 Tom-Tom accounts, it could take our technical team a few more years to sort the issue.
As I only use one email account 0the main reasons I got Tom-Tom was I could have both devices working of one email address and one Tom-Tom account. Tom-Tom have said as I got the devices from a retailer if I want a refund its up to the retailer. The retailer has looked at my Tom-Toms and say there is nothing wrong with them as both devices are working perfectly when they both are not linked to my Tom-Tom account.

For the sake of ease, why can you not create a new email address, a new tomtom account and use them that way?
Is there a reason you only want one account?0 -
Simple quick answer - create another free gmail account and use that.0
-
Is there a specific reason why you want to use the one account? (e.g. free - or paid-for - map updates that you want to enable for both devices).0

If you have a gmail account you can simulate having multiple accounts by adding dots into the address. From Tomtom's POV they will be different email accounts but the emails will all come into your inbox.
E.G. if your email address is macskin123@gmail.com then you could create a TomTom account using macskin.123@gmail.com, you won't have to actually set up another email address.0 -
Does your partner not have an email address?
It's annoying, but it is a relatively easy fix...0 -
I have only ever had one email address its easy all my emails go to one place and I deal with them. The same way as my post it comes to one address and I deal with that.
The TomTom website says "You can link up to 10 navigation devices to one TomTom account. Any maps or services you purchase are assigned to the serial number of the device you purchase them for." Have a look search TomTom ADDING A DEVICE TO YOUR ACCOUNT
There were a few companies that said I could have more than one navigation device linked to one account. TomTom had all the features i wanted including the ability of having multiple devices linked to one account also easy to use the only thing I did not like it was the most expensive.
As I have said they all work the way TomTom said they would until one would not turn on and it was replaced by TomTom. It was then the issue started. It was only then I discovered that the software problem started before I got my devices. Now I am being told by TomTom that everything I have been told before I purchased them and everything TomTom have said about this being a software problem is in fact all wrong. TomTom are now saying that I doing have an issue with my devices this is how TomTom intended them to work and when I first got Both TomTom that they were not working properly and they are now working as they should.
They then went on to say the way to sort my issue out is to set up another email address and have 2 TomTom accounts.0 -
So why not do that - as mentioned previously? (e.g. macskin at gmail.com is your current account; mac.skin at gmail.com is the new account). Tom Tom won't likely know any different but the emails will still come into the same email account.
If you don't currently use Gmail for the Tom Tom account you can always change it.0 -

You can also add a + to gmail, for example macskin+tomtom@gmail.com and it comes to the same account and inbox.
This can be useful if you start getting spam because then you know who sold your details, but not everyone will accept an address with a + as valid so you can't use it everywhere unfortunately.
Microsoft's 'Outlook' (Formerly Hotmail) will also let you set up alias addresses that are automatically delivered to your inbox too, if you use that service.
I believe Yahoo has something similar too, although I don't remember what it is off the top of my head.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). Octopus Flux0
