Admiral Cooling off period
Hi there, so I have made a right hash of my renewal timescales for my car insurance with admiral. Basically, my car insurance auto-renewed on 23/11/18 and by the time you read this it will be 12/12/18. I thought it was later than that but that is my own fault.
I know that the cooling off period is 14 days and that I have missed that boat, however, is there anything I can do? None of the details are correct as I have just moved house/job etc Not to mention that it was way more expensive than my previous year.
I have made a right pigs ear of this, but is this realistically salvageable or is my goose already cooked?
Thanks

My experiences with Admiral indicate that they aren't the most flexible of insurers.
They stung me quite badly for changing my car mid way through the year. I forget the amount but it was a few hundred pound. They then included the extra I'd paid into my annual premium and based my renewal on that. The only way I got a decent price out of them was to go for a multi policy. I tied my car to my home insurance which had 10 months left. When I asked to tie my house to my car insurance, the overall price pretty much trebled. 3x the cost for 2 months of cover.
If you are getting much better quotes elsewhere, it may just be cheaper to cancel the rest of your policy. Take the hit on the admin fees for doing so into consideration though.
I'll be rid of them ASAP. I have a reminder set for June to start insurance shopping !0 -
There's an admin fee of about £25, which you'd likely need to pay now to change the policy.
I doubt you'll get a discount since you were given about 2 weeks between quote and renewal. You can always try though, they may have some leeway if you threaten to leave.
You could cancel the policy and get a pro-rata refund (minus admin) and take out a new policy. You'd need to do the math to see if that'll be worth the hassle.0 -
You can also ask admiral to take away the auto Renew option. Too late now but other users might find it useful.0

Thank you all, I will give it a go and see how I get on.
Cheers
