PCN issued to me as registered keeper but I was only the driver of the hired car

Hi folks,

I received a parking charge notice for parking in a restricted area of Newcastle airport. The car was on hire and the hirer passed on my details but on the PCN refer to me as the registered keeper of the vehicle, surely that’s the hire car company? That is what I based my defence on. They sent threatening letters to pay up and then passed it to debt collectors and finally bw legal who are threatening to take me to court. The parking charge is a year old now and I’m starting to get sick of the hassling. Interestingly, the letter from bw legal refers to me as being responsible for a vehicle, not the registered keeper. I have read the stickies but can’t find a good fit, any suggestions?

This will be UKPPO? Yes/No will do. Surprised you've found nothing about them as they're all over this forum.

Try keywords 'UKPPO Newcastle Airport' in a forum search, the follow the advice that's been given dozens of times in the past few months. There's no silver bullet, but you have to be resilient.

bear in mind that as hirer or lessee, you were the day to day KEEPER of the vehicle and obviously not the REGISTERED KEEPER (that may well be the hire company but as they named you then they are out of the picture)


as mentioned above, there are maybe half a dozen UKPPO ones on the go on here at the moment
