I just got back from another Argentina trip, also taking in Uruguay this year.

Argentina is really cheap for foreigners at the moment, especially if you can take USD cash and exchange it at the "blue" rate - we were getting 95 Pesos to the £ - more than 20% over the official exchange rate. Plus there are loads of discounts for paying in cash. So it's one place where you don't want to be using your card if saving money is a priority. OTOH, Buenos Aires is not the safest place in the world and carrying lots of cash is a risk.

We used the Cabify app a lot to get around while in Buenos Aires - pretty similar to Uber but people prefer it there. A taxi between the main airport (EZE) and the centre was about 700-1000 Pesos, about half what the kiosk in the arrivals area charges.

Hiring a car was a challenge as we left it to the last minute and the big companies had run out, being peak summer season. In the end some local contacts found us a car to rent. No contract, credit card or anything - all paid in cash.

Great trip though, not enjoying being back in the winter.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning
