Letting agent wont supply tenancy agreement.

Just because someone leaves, indeed confirms they are/have left by email, does not necessarily end the contract, ditto the tenancy, ditto liability for rent.
To end a tenancy at least one tenant must serve a valid notice to quit when perioidic.
Kindly quote EXACT wording of the notice sent (names & address xxxxxx'd out..), and date initial fixed term ends or ended, please.0 -
LA dont always know what they are talking about - sad but true.
there is a fundamental difference between someone leaving property and ending a tenancy.
the reality is you have a joint tenancy still active regardless of your friend leaving and until you agree to the terms and costs laid by the LL or LA to turn this into a sole tenancy it will remain so
I think all your options have been explained in previous posts so its up to you how you proceed.
It might be worth talking to you friend as they might not realise they are still on the tenancy and therefore responsible for all the property etc0
