Electric meter has gone past 10000
Hi all,
My electric meter how shows 00189 after passing 99999.
I know that utility companies are good at making a mess of these things and unfortunately I can't get hold of my current supplier at the moment so can I ask if I should be putting in either 00189 as it reads or add the 1 on the front - 100189?
Just checking how others may have done it for best chances of not creating a mess with the supplier. They're a smaller newer one so if best to contact them I'll have to try later.

I would put the reading in as it is - i.e don’t add the 1 at the front unless your suppliers specifically tells you too. Any suppliers website / billing system should be able to cope with meters clicking over zero, and if doesn’t that’s not a great sign in general!0

I would supply the meter reading as you have taken from the meter, rather than change it.
Depending on the supplier, you may find it's not possible to even put in 6 digits for a domestic meter read (as domestic meters do not have 6 digits before any decimal point)0 -
Domestic electrics meter readings should be submitted as five figures..Two leading zero s should be shown in this case so it s 00189.. The exceptions are the crazy Indian made ex business meters, Secure Liberty, which have somehow found their way into the UK because they are cheap to buy.
These bonkers meters have 7 digits and a decimal point showing tenths of units . Latest ones now have 6 digits and a decimal point. They have also improved the font
If you have one of these then submit 4 leading zeros eg 00001890 -
Thanks all, I've put it in and it shows as 189 so hopefully they'll register it as 1001890

Just make sure you very carefully check the next bill. Energy suppliers are not exactly renown for getting things right.0

My parents' meter rolled over and they just submitted the figure as is. No erroneous bills as a result. This is a fairly common occurrence with ageing meters, especially those on economy 7 where a fair number of overnight units get racked up annually.0

This happened to my meter last year. It went from around 9991 to 0001. I submitted 0001 as my monthly reading & I got a normal bill. Never had any problems since either.0
