Council fine Resident parking on match day

Hi
Apologies for the long post, I was hoping to gain some insight as to whether my case matched the unfair rules and if you thought it was worth persuing an appeal or not? I’ve read the guides but I’m not sure how to relate them to my case.
I recently moved to a new city near a rugby stadium. There are parking restrictions on matchdays but otherwise no need for a residents permit. I’ve only known the games to be on at 3pm and they come checking at 1:30pm. Apparently you can get permanent permits but I’ve gone onto the council website I’ve only seen temporary ones for the day.
I didn’t realise they can have early games and went outside to find my car being ticketed at 11:30am as it was a 1pm game. The warden had already issued the ticket but said he’d put a note on the ticket saying I’d come out. He handed me the paper ticket so didn’t put a yellow thing on my car.
I took pictures showing there was no signage on my street and appealed. The council rejected the appeal saying
“In reply to your comments, the Council must advise that the match dates are detailed on the entrance signs to the zone. They are put up at least a week in advance to advise residents and motorists that there is an upcoming match. As it is a zonal restriction, additional signage stating the dates of the match are not required. As no valid permit was displayed, the Council considers the penalty charge notice to be correctly and fairly imposed.“
My thoughts are:
1) I don’t necessarily drive my car during the week and don’t necessarily travel past the two entrances to the zone.
2) if the signs are there, I think they are quite high up and hard to see
3) I’m not a sports fan and I’ve always thought it was ok to park up until 1:30 as I didn’t know they did early games
4) The whole point of the zonal restriction is to not inconvenience residents, not to punish them surely? As I am clearly a resident, why should I be punished for parking outside my house because there’s a rugby match on?
5) Is there a loophole because they didn’t put the ticket on my car? They emailed me a letter rejecting my appeal but does that count as a NTO? If not, is that a loophole?
I’d be very grateful to hear if people think I have a chance at an appeal or not before I lose the chance for the discount?
Thanks
