The OP didn't use his insurer!

    He used an AMC!

Thus no point asking his Insurer to reconsider and no point referring to the FOS guidance
OP is in the same boat as us.
Insurance company, Hastings Direct, told us they would pass the claim to Auxillis without explaining we would lose our rights.

Not our choice but that of the insurance company.
They gain financially from the ignorance of the insured.

if your involved in an accident and your own insurers pass you to a AMC, can you say no and use your insurers instead??

You can, but you might have to say 'no' several times, quite loudly and forcefully.

So it would be better to use your insurers directly, than an AMC, I presume they prefer AMC due to commission??

The advantages of using an AMC are no excess to pay and subsequently pursue the third party for/ easier to use your own choice of repairer/like for like replacement car usually provided immediately if needed (as opposed to having to hire your own replacement and pursue the third party to reimburse you)
