Barclaycard accidental death benefit insurance

My husband and I have held the above policy for +/- 20 years which provides us with £75K should one of us die due to an accident at a cost of £20 per month. However we have just received notification that the provider can no longer provide this cover. They are giving us until the 30th June 2019 to make alternative arrangements. This cover was offered by Barclaycard initially but taken over by Cigna a number of years ago and it is Cigna that is ceasing to provide cover from June 2019. My question is, are they able to do this? We have been paying for 20+ years and to find alternative cover is likely to be more expensive now. Surely they have an obligation to us in someway having taken our money for a good long time. Is anyone else in the same situation? Thank you in advance.

It was more than likely an annually renewable insurance and as such they have absolutely no obligation.
Accidental death cover is normally cheap as chips. At £20/month it sounds like you've been overpaying. I'd be surprised if you couldn't find it cheaper as age has little bearing on the risk of accidental death.0 -

yes, they can do this!
You have been overpaying anyway all this time
You will find similar cover easily and cheaper (eg Aviva (not a recommendation) charge less than £17/month for more cover than you have been paying your £20 for)0 -
Yes it does sound very expensive.
Assuming you really do have a need for insurance then I would have thought life and or permanent health insurance to be more suitable.0 -
i got 250k for 16 Pounds, but the older you are the more expensive it is"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"
