Bank Card Swallowed for no reason

This evening my hbos card was swallowed by an hbos machine.

They themselves have admitted it was a fault with their machine

I am now without cash all weekend

I will definitly be complaining but my question is should I ask for compensation and if so how much.

I should note the card has been looking pretty dodgy for a while and when I asked for a replacement was told their was no need and that they wouldnt send one (in branch)

Thats complete crap the branch are telling you. They probably just cant be bothered.

Go to bank tommorow and withdraw some money for the weekend. Also, id ring the callcenter number and say your card was swallowed and you need a new one.

Other guys here will let you know how to complain and ask for some form of compensation to sweeten the whole mess.

If I want a new card because mine is broken I just give Lloyds a call and they sort it. No fuss! I think someone in branch was being a lazy sod!
  • I had this last week too.

My Natwest card was swallowed for no reason, I went into the branch and they checked the machine, no sign of it. I assumed it must have been spat out again and someone has taken it. They put a stop on it, ordered me a new one and asked if I needed any money from that account. I was especially annoyed since it I had only had my new card a few weeks and had lots of christmas shopping planned.

I have had to use my savings card and transfer online what I have spent, could you do something similar? Transfer cash from your current account into another account that you can still access and withdraw from that?

I know its really annoying. As for compensation I have no idea.

The problem Is I cant go tomorrow due to work commitments and the branches in our area dont open on saturday

Ive already phoned and a new one will be posted in 5-7 working days

I will now need to take a few hours away from work to go to the bank and get cash

I plan to go into my local branch next week to make my complaint.

    again no

My other account is with a different bank and the funds wouldnt arrive til next week

Im stuck in having to take a few hours out of work to go and withdraw cash then go and pay it directly into my other account over the counter

Basically a lot of hassle, lost toil and all because of a mistake at their end, one which could have been avoided if they'd issued me a new card when I voiced my concern about its condition
  • This issue was made worse that after taking the morning off yesterday to attend a branch at 9am

They didnt open til 920 am
They had a systems issue that their safe and systems wouldnt work
    They couldnt serve me
The staff member patronised me and tried to claim it wasnt the banks fault their systems didnt work and that If I "knew anything about computers " i would know that
They eventually gave me cash after an hour of waiting that had been paid in by others - but only after saying they wouldnt and serving 5 other people in the same way

To make matters worse she then proceeded to tell me their call centre hadnt cancelled or reissued my card

To say im majorly !!!!ed is an understatement

I will be complaining and again I ask should I be looking for compo and if so how much.
