Creative Zen touch problems!

Non-technical father has a Creative Zen touch, and now the scroll pad has stopped working, it'll scroll down no problem, but won't scroll up. Tech support said to update the firmware, but it's the exact same firmware as the one that's on the machine already, plus the update keeps freezing when I try and install it.
Anyone got any other suggestions or is it just buggered?

i'm beginning to think the same thing. got one in june and now my replacement is playing up again. great when they work but getting tired of having to take the battery out when the damn thing freezes.

I've had mine nearly two years and use it every day.
I've had to unplug the battery once and reset once.
Apart from that it's been brilliant. Much better than the Ipod I had that went back twice in a month.It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0
