Just had a letter from Npower to say my heat tariff is going up from 8.389p to 10.567p because of the Energy Price Cap, an increase of 26%.

Could somebody please explain the logic of this.

Thanks

How are they going to recover the money that ithe cap will cost them if they dont raise all their other tariffs.

It's an obvious consequence of capping - I'm guessing that all tariffs will increase over time to compensate. We can then all look forward to a bi-annual increase when the cap get's adjusted. Next one is due in April next year

What else does the letter say, because the unit price is going to be capped at a lot higher than 10.567p/kWh

Could you not attempt to answer this query online here, for all Npower Super Tariff customers to see, please?

I suspect this is not a unique situation covering just the OP, but rather a general price change that affects all Npower Super Tariff customers, and so the mailing has been sent to all such customers.

Oh God I hope not, I use 9000 units a year.

Letter didn't say if this price was the actual cap.

That is price for electricity used for heating - mainly overnight plus a couple of hours top up in the afternoon. The unit price for daytime electricity will be a lot higher. Supertariff was expensive anyway, but all electricity tariffs have gone up sharply this year.
