Switched on daughters Ipod touch for the first time in a few years.
and have encountered activation lock.
There is a hint to the email address, which can only be my daughters. assuming the first letter is correct
But when we put the email address & password in it says it is wrong.
But we can log into the icloud.com using the email address.
Is there a way to find out what the email address is or can we just enter the password wrongly ten times & it goes back to factory settings
Any other suggestions also welcome.
We have looked at all the other Apple accounts & it is not showing on any of them
TIA

Is there anything on the iPad you want to keep ?
Must be another email address.0 -
Nothing will be nothing on it that we want - my daughter has only ever had one email address she is 11 & I set it up about 5 years agoPrivate Parking Tickets - Make sure you put your Subject Access Request in after 25th May 2018 - It's free & ask for everything, don't forget the DVLA0

Activation lock can not be defeated by any type of factory reset, it will always require the username/password to be entered. If you have the original proof of purchase then Apple may be able to reset it.0

bought 5 years ago from Argos - using Argos card - only trouble Argos Statement just says you bought something in a particular store not the item.
So the message reads
"this ipod touch is linked to an apple id. Enter the apple id & password that were used to set up this ipod - oXXXXX@hxxxxx.uk
O is the first letter of her email address & the h I assume must be Hotmail.co.uk which is the second part of her email address. Which I can log into at Apple
I would never have created another email address because this is her first & second initials & surname, so the perfect email address
Q can anything be done or have I got a worthless piece of junk. Tried phoning Apple but got lost in translation!!

But we can log into the icloud.com using the email address.
Go to https://www.icloud.com/ and log in as you say you can.
In the top right go to your name and then 'icloud settings'
What 'devices' are showing under 'My Devices'
if it is the ipod in question then you should be able to remove it from your account with the 'I have sold this device' option and then, I think, it should be OK after a reboot. ** be careful to select the correct one if you own more than one device and multiple devices are showing **
If the device is not in the list then its likely that its a different email address/Apple ID
Hope this helps.
Also something to try is
https://appleid.apple.com - enter the details and check what devices are showing against that Apple ID at the bottom of the page
Thinking on - can you see the wifi connection in the top of the screen on the ipod - if its not been on for years then is your wifi SSID and wifi password still the same - if not then I am not sure how it would ever update using my options above!
Does plugging it into a lap top and running itunes offer any different options?0 -
Nothing on the I cloud, I've looked at all three accounts we have, can only see the phones so no idea what it is linked too!!
Apple are unable to tell me the email address, even with the serial number - so looks like a piece of Junk
Ironically, plugged it into the laptop & can happily see all the photosPrivate Parking Tickets - Make sure you put your Subject Access Request in after 25th May 2018 - It's free & ask for everything, don't forget the DVLA0 -
Have you attempted to enter DFU Mode at all, OP?
Connect the device to a computer using a USB cable.
Hold down both the Home button and Lock button.
After 8 seconds, release the Lock button while continuing to hold down the Home button.
If the Apple logo appears, the Lock button was held down for too long.
Nothing will be displayed on the screen when the device is in DFU mode. If open, iTunes will alert you that a device was detected in recovery mode.
If your device shows a screen telling you to connect the device to iTunes, retry these steps.
Even though it's Activation Locked, from memory, you should be presented with a screen with the partial email address you currently see on the iPod's screen as well as a password field.
If you're able to log into iCloud it *might* work on your computer. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0
