Hi,

I am considering purchasing VR and would appreciate any advice / suggestions.

Should I be considering PS4, X Box, HTC or Oculus?

What games do you find good / bad?

Thanks in advance for any tips and pointers :A

There's no VR for XBox. That leaves, in order of quality and cost, lowest first, PSVR, Oculus, HTC.
You'll need a PS4 for the first, and a very good PC for the latter 2.
How hard do you want to invest in this young technology? Will you be upset when something better and cheaper comes out next year?
Racing games seem perfect for it (you're sat at a wheel) and my friend swears by it.

PS4 VR is really good, and I've tried a mates, but it's a big expense. May or may not be worth it for you, but if there are games you would really want to play on it, and it's not just going to be packed up in the box after a month, then maybe so. The PS4 VR headset has a lot of cables so is a pain if you are setting up in the living room. You can pick it up for under £200 at the minute plus you need a PS camera, and the wands add to the experience, and obviously a PS4 - if you are starting from scratch your talking minimum £400-£500.
Not used the PC VR sets but I understand that you need a good spec PC plus the VR sets cost more.

There are many games that are VR compatible on PS4 but in my opinion the VR enhances the experience of a game you would like without VR, it doesn't make you like a game that you wouldn't without the headset. Having been umming and ahhing about PS4 VR for over a year, I still think it's not worth it myself. If I had lots of spare cash, I might give it a go, but would no doubt get it in the neck from the OH if I didn't use it much. Also, some people have complained about motion sickness effects, or problems if using too long. Best bet is to see if you can give it a try somewhere and see how you get on. The RPG games get a good rating with VR (Skyrim etc.) and I've played a racing game with steering wheel which was excellent. (The racing wheel is another expense), but just can't see me gaming on it all the time and if it's costing as much as the PS4 in the first place then it may be a folly.
  • This is MSE forum after all......

Get a bus to Westminster (or any other of our seats of government) and sit there for a day or two.

Oh, Ah, sorry that would be virtually no reality :).

A group of us went to VR Simulators had a fantastic time. This got me thinking> I want more of this. :T

I am not sure the home experience would be as good. Might be a novelty which I would tire of. Perhaps it would be better & cheaper to use the money I would spend on a home VR set up to pay for many visits?
