Renegotiating after Survey

Hi everyone, some advice would be appreciated please!
I viewed a house a few weeks ago and really liked it, I couldn't see a huge amount of work that needed doing to it (I'm a first time buyer but my Dad is a chartered surveyor so had given me a check list of what to look for). The advert stated that the property came with a garage, but when I asked to see the garage, but the Estate agent didn't know which one it was ( it is not attached to the house).
When I had my survey a few issues were noticed, (old boiler likely to need replacing, no electrical socket in downstairs bedroom) however the most notable was that the garage has a tree next to it that has caused cracks in the walls, plus the inside beams are rotten from damp, plus the roof (complete with asbestos) requires replacing.
As I didn't know this prior to making my offer is it unreasonable now to go back and try to renegotiate now that I've found I've got to pay for a lot of work, plus the tree has doubled the house insurance quote. Any thoughts?

What does your Dad say?
Personally I would walk away... the vendor must have known of the problems with the garage and made it impossible for you to find out prior to offer. Who knows what other issues are concealed?0 -
What's the valuation on the survey, compared to your offer?0

The boiler might need replacing at some point. That applies to all boilers.
No socket in a bedroom. Not a big problem to rectify.
So that leaves the garage. Chop the tree down? Attend to the roof as and when.
The survey appears not to have found other issues, concealed or otherwise, certainly wouldn't put me off if it was a house I wanted.Voyager2002 wrote: »Who knows what other issues are concealed?0
