Queries about increasing credit limit (LTSB)

Hi,
I am thinking of requesting for an increased credit limit with LTSB, for a large purchase that I am anticipating to purchase. I intend to pay it off in full when the bill comes, but also keep the raised credit limit after that.
1) From your experiences, will an external credit search be performed? (with Experian and Equifax I mean)
2) Are the requests (through online/phone) immediate or not?
3) Will the agent on the phone be able to see "The amount that has been pre-approved", so that I can ask for the highest possible that I could have? (Last time a kind bank manager showed me the amount that I could have on their system, together with my 'bank rating' - I wonder will customer agents on the phone see it and could they tell me about it)
4) Does huge credit limits (but low used credit limit) represent signs of overcommitment, or does overcommitment refers to having huge credit limits PLUS huge proportion of credit limit used?
Will be really grateful if anyone could answer any or all of the questions. Thanks!!!
