Parcel returned to the seller against our will

My wife has received the notification from DPD that the item she has bought on Amazon Marketplace with a very significant discount (Individual one-off discount code, that the lender has given to drive up his sales figures) will be delivered on Saturday.

There was an option in the email to chose for the delivery to be rearranged on a different date if Saturday was not convenient, so she has chosen a Monday instead which was reflected on the DPD online tracking website.

She has however later received an email from Amazon that DPD depot has now rejected the item and the item is going back to Amazon and she was then issued the refund.

The seller would not sell the item at the discount to her again.

Have we got any claim against DPD for screwing this up?
The difference between full price item and the discount is circa £40.

DPD hasn't "screwed up", they've made the choice, for whatever reason, to reject the delivery. What explanation have they given and what was the item?

There were two identical items - storage units for toys.

No reason was given, just the notification came from Amazon saying the item is being returned to the seller and the refund is due.
  • Sounds like something is 'wrong' with the parcel, dodgy address, ripped label, poor packaging, damage etc if DPD are deciding against handling it.

He sold it at a discount to 'drive up his sales figures' and now won't honour that price, so I am assuming the sale figure counts despite being refunded. makes you wonder if the parcel was ever sent in a condition that could have reached you...
  • My wife just told me that the DPD claim they have received the notification for a different delivery date too late hence why they sent it back to the seller.

The above arrangement is 100% legal and there are groups on Facebook where you can get codes to get the items very cheaply or even free as the more items are sold the higher uo item appears on a search in Amazon, so actually many sellers do it to boost up their seller rankings by selling at the loss.
  • I wasn't suggesting anything about it was 'illegal'...

You have no claim about DPD for the loss of discount. The seller could just send you the parcel again or honour the discount again. The seller is choosing not to.

DPD are idiots if they have a system which allows you to rebook but doesn't honour the rebooking.
