RAC Parts Labour Warranty rip off

I have Rac warranty cover that covers cost up to £750 parts and labour in the event of a breakdown.
I have paid for 2 years. never received any documents but they take my money monthly.
Just had a breakdown that they attended and was taken to an rac approved garage.
Rac say that despite me providing service history over the last year and more of various repairs and full services that they will not cover the claim as the local garage I use for all my vehicle repairs in our village is not VAT registered.
No one ever told me this and in any case, What has the tax vat status of a garage that does a proper job got to do with a warranty, breakdown cover.
They state its on their terms and conditions but I never saw them.
What leg do I have to challenge them with this.
I have paid in good faith over 2 years and repaired and serviced my vehicles to find when I need them to cover me they refuse.
Can anyone help me PLEASE.
David

Start with a formal letter of complaint.

How can a garage not be VAT registered? Is it a retired mechanic only doing a few odd jobs?
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.
  • Its a small village garage that does servicing and minor repairs. Not hundreds of customers but just servicing local clients. Turnover needs to be £85,000 before the need or requirement to be vat registered.
I dont see what the tax status has to do with whether a vehicle has been serviced . He is a fully qualified mechanic and I have the services invoices they requested.

Read the Ts & Cs of your warranty. I bet it specifies that - and, if it does, you cannot say that nobody ever told you that... You can only say that you didn't listen when they did.

    Typical RAC warranty documentation:

    9. Servicing Requirements
To ensure the validity of this Warranty Your Vehicle must be serviced in accordance with any one of the following options:
    ...
    Please note:
    ...
•A bona fide VAT-registered garage must carry out servicing. It is Your responsibility to establish Your Vehicle’s servicing requirements and to adhere to them.

Failure to do so will invalidate this Policy.
    Always read the paperwork...

And what prevented the OP from chasing up the vendor and/or the RAC for a copy of the relevant documentation during that two years...?

Any of a number of reasons, none of which reflect well on the OP.;)
