Data Breach Claim with bank

Hi,
My current bank has granted myself access to all my wife's bank accounts and credit card and also vice versa. It turns out that I have seen what my wife has been spending and in this case what she has bought me for Xmas.
She has hit the roof and called the bank them admitting the breach and offering £300 compensation to both of us but we had to accept that there and then.
This is a new world and wondering how to progress with this. In my head Id like the last 6 months refunded from the credit card as that's what caused the arguments between myself and wife.
Do you think I've got a case or should we just accept the £300 each?

There may have been a data breach, but I don't see how they're responsible for your wife's spending.0

You have zero chance of getting 6 months of spending covered by the bank and the regulator won't back you on that. £300 is a fair whack of compensation (particularly if it's £300 each) for a mistake that has caused you zero financial harm. Remember, compensation is for your losses. You knowing what you're getting for Christmas is not a financial loss and if you and your wife choose to hide your finances from each other then that is your choice but again you have not suffered a financial loss as a result of this.
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Yes I agree they aren’t responsible for her spending but they are responsible for keeping that spending confidential.0

You haven't suffered a quantifiable loss. Being upset does't qualify.
300 is a good amount because it's usually 250...
If you knew you were loking at your wifes sepdnig, you must have really looked because you need to click through a few pages to go to bank accounts and credit cards, they are not all on the same page, so, you helped bring this situation about by not stopping looking immediately you realised.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -

Understand that the bank are offering you £300 goodwill payment (each?) to be rid of your complaint, not as "compensation" for money you have (not) lost.
They are really not legally required to pay you anything.
You can also report the data breach to the relevant authorities, but that would only result in hassle for the Bank-not additional "compo" for you.0 -
WOW is this really the world we live in now... you go out of your way to look at information you know full well you shouldn’t have access to yet you want the back to compensate you?!
Consider yourself VERY lucky they even offered what they did, could have easily palmed it off at around £100 which would satisfy their requirements as already previously stated there was NO financial detriment to either of you.0 -
Since reading all these replies I've calmed down a little and the red mist as gone hahaha.
We have accepted the offer which to be far as you have all said very good.0
