Save money - ditch the bike!

Received a renewal quote on Home Insurance from Nationwide BS (Royal & Sun Alliance) last week. Unimpressed that the cost had gone up 8.7% (£22) on last year.Looked at Price breakdown and saw Bicycle Cover was £5.17. But I don't have a bike, so I phoned and asked for a quote without bike cover. Result? The price went down by £28!!! Lesson - always call to discuss your quote - I suspect there was an added discount thrown in to retain my business!

Save money by not paying to insure something you don't have? Sounds good.

I don't have 10 Faberge eggs, I'll cancel my insurance policy for them to save money...

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Bit snarky as most standard household policies won't have optional Faberge Egg cover as an add-on; think OP was acting in the best interests of posters who may not be aware to read through the nitty-gritty of their policy and was trying to highlight the savings that could be made ...

Optional cover that you pay for is not hidden in deep terms and conditions, it's part of the insurance summary. MSE posters would largely be savvy enough to read their policies and see what they are paying for, it's the sort of thing the site and Martin ram down your throats constantly.
