Car Insurance - Who Had the Accident?

Hello! I hope you can help.
We are just in the stage of renewing car insurance.
In April this year - a car drove into the side of our car. My husband was driving.
I am the named policy holder so I reported it - and it was all fixed. We were not held at fault and our no claims was sustained.
In terms of doing new car insurance - we have to document the claim.
Who do we put against this against?
My husband - as he was driving
Me - As I was the policy holder and reported it
Both Of Us? - As we were both in the car
I am the named policy holder on the renewal - so don't want to put it against me (as opposed to my husband who we are listing as a 2nd driver) - because we think it will up the insurance. And I wasn't driving.
But as I made the claim and am the named policy holder - do we need to put it as me?
Thank you so much for your help!

Hi Amez,
If you are going to be the policyholder and your OH a named driver (i.e. same scenario as at the time of the accident) then you will have to put that he was involved in an accident but there is no need to declare under your name.
However, if you decide not to include him in the renewal then you declare it as your accident as it was claimed under your policy.
or if your OH decides to buy his own policy he declares as his accident.0 -
Hi tasticz!
Thank you for your reply!
It will be the 1st option - I will be the policy holder - and hubby named as an additional driver.
So does that mean I wouldn't put anything under me, but when I add his additional driver details, I put the accident under his name?
Thanks for your help! I will wait for clarification from you.

Hi, sorry for late reply been quite busy.
Yes, what you said is correct.
I had a similar scenario to yours but in my case, it was me and my dad.
I did not declare anything under my name only under my dads.
I would check if the insurer you are going with asks "was the claim made on your policy" in this case check by clicking "no" to see what option they give. If no option is given then choose "yes it was made on your policy". I remember a broker told me I would choose "no" then I would declare I was a named driver if asked.
Doubt any companies ask for this though!
Hope it helps.0 -
I declare the non fault accident I had in my wifes car. My wife declares a claim. The claim wasn't against her policy, we dealt entirely with the other partys insurer.
We declare an accident for her, when she wrote off my car. I declare a claim for that.
Far safer than risking a cancelled policy for non disclosure.
When we renewed insurance, I called the insurer to ask. I said it was declaring the same incident twice, they said that was correct.0
