When I first moved to the UK, mind you it was 2007, I opened an account with HSBC called the Passport account. It wasn’t too difficult as that account was made for new migrants. I banked with them, I register on the electoral roll (being Canadian helps, cos I can vote), but I had no other names on the bill other than rental agreement with my landlord. I think they just offered me a cc after a certain time, 6 months if I remember correctly.
