Best time to bag a freebie credit card?

I thought I would go for my second freebie CC, last year I did the Christmas Amazon deal for £25 voucher.
I'm tempted to get the oyster CC for the £25 but I am thinking, do card companies usually start offering better deals around Christmas or not?
Any observations from last Christmas would be great.
All I can say is that Amazon up'd there offer by £10 over the Christmas period, maybe they will do it again this year if anyone is thinking about the amazon card.
