Starting childcare, tax credit help needed!

Hi everyone, I'm new!
My daughter is nearly 17 months and in January will start at a childminders as I have a new job! Yay!
I was doing the tax credit calculator to see what we would be entitled to in terms of help. She will only be going 3 days a week, 5 hours a day so it will cost £90 a week

Mine and my husband's joint income is around £27000 a year

I'm just confused by the calculation? It says we would be entitled to-
£206 child tax credit
£0 working tax credit
£0 childcare element

Does this mean were not entitled to the childcare element? Can I use the child tax credit for the childcare?
If I took away the childcare, it says we will get £0 for everything so it must be the childcare making the child tax go up? Right?
I'm so confused any help would be greatly appreciated!
I just don't want to start her in the childminders if I find out we can't get help and will have no way to pay for it!

Do you already have an active claim? If you don't then you'll need to check what's in your area, if it's a full universal credit area then you won't be able to claim tax credits at all, it will be UC.

It's just the way tax credits is calculated. Wtc is reduced first then childcare then CTC. If you only have one child, you wouldn't get tax credits without having childcare costs. It's entirety up to you how you use the tax credits. It's just all goes into the pot the same as your other income.
  • Yes I get 66 in tax credits a month and my area is in full service for UC but I'm not on it
