Just read in my magazine that chromecast supports Ios so you don’t need apple TV. Have I read this wrong? So I can play youtube videos, Facebook videos, videos directly from other sites from my IPhone on my TV that has chromecast connected? I have always been under the impression that the only way you can play videos from an IPhone to a TV is through Apple TV ??

It's not about the phone, it's about the apps. Any 'cast' enabled app will work with the Chromecast....Netflix, YouTube, etc....... and you'll need the Google Home app to set it all up......Easy stuff.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Indeed.
Once the Chromecast has been setup on your network you don't actually need the Google Home app on the iPhone for it to work. If an app displays the Chromecast icon (usually top right) you can connect to the Chromecast and any video that would have played in that app now plays on the TV instead.
They work very well providing they get a good strong WiFi signal (or you can get a wired connection as an optional extra). It does rely on the app developers getting their act together. There have been a couple of periods of a few weeks when BBC iPlayer updates have screwed its Chromcast connectivity.0
