This thread has been useful for me as I can now ask the bank about the difference I had to pay. Nomemory I’m Glad you got sorted too. I’m so annoyed about it all, the hotel said it happened to a few others at the same hotel too!

There are quite a few threads running on Trip Advisor at the moment with recent posters reporting the same situation, Hotelquickly cancelling reservations at the last moment.

One poster reports calling the hotel and the hotel telling her that HotelQuickly have been doing this all week with multiple reservations.

Original reservation cancelled. No offer of an alternative hotel, no refund forthcoming just an offer of a credit with HotelQuickly. Pattern perhaps emerging.

Pure speculation but I wonder if one or more of their intermediary bed bank suppliers has pulled the plug on them perhaps because of payment issues, resulting in these reported multiple cancellations. Not ideal at anytime but certainly not just before the Christmas and New Year Holidays.

HotelQuickly are a Bankok based business. They seemed to attract business after people hunt for a cheap deal on sites like price comparison sites like Trivago. Given their location and lack of U.K. consumer protection hopefully not too many UK consumers pulled into this current situation.

It is not looking good -

That linked report has some good tips for those caught up in the HotelQuickly situation with regard to trying to recover monies paid.
  • Hi,

I too have been caught out with this, but thankfully for an advance booking and a small amount in comparison to others.

I checked with the hotel who were able to tell me that the booking to them was made by hotel beds uk and not directly by hotel quickly nor was it ever paid for even though I was charged.

I contacted my bank as I paid on debit card to disputed the payment under their scheme. Today the bank has informed me they are not able to assist ‘due to the company being a 3rd PARTY, As a bank we do not have any chargeback rights when this happens. You will need to take this up direct with Viagogo‘.

This is now 3 parties involved in a single transaction!!!!

I got to this provider in the first place via tripadvisor as a trusted source. Not something I will do again without sufficient research,

HotelClick used to pay for advertising on Trip Advisor. You should not see TA as "a trusted source" but just somewhere, like a newspaper, where a merchant advertised their goods. TA did however pull all HQ links in early December after the troubles with HQ escalated.

Hotelbeds is a trade bed bank who sells hotel inventory to 3rd party agents. It seems HQ obtained most of their hotel supply via Hotelbeds. Hotelbeds did not get paid by HQ so cancelled all bookings being held.

No idea where viagogo fits into all of this.
