my car got scratched / keyed outside my home.
Would the police get involved if i report this as this is vandalism, i know there are shops camera on my road or would they see this as a minor issue for the insurance company?

To be honest this is a misdemeanor for the police - not very interested in you unless it has happened to a lot of people or a VIP.
Only you can decide whether paying for the damage yourself or claiming on your insurance is cheaper.0
