17 year old car insurance

I want to add my son to my insurance policy but they don’t insure under 21s
Is it best to have:
Any driver insurance
Named driver insurance
Separate driver insurance
Do i cancel my policy?
Plus do i have to tell insurance that ive just got points added to my license?
Thanks

Your only option is to cancel your policy and find another insurer prepared to cover a 17 year old named driver (as your existing insurer won't play ball)

You do have to inform your insurer about points - if you intend keeping your existing policy then check the policy wording to see when you are required to notify convictions (some insurers want informing immediately, others want informing at renewal)

Otherwise if you are going to take out a new policy to include the 17 year old then you disclose the points when getting quotes

Or get him his own car and his own insurance, that way he wont wipe out your no claims.
