How much is it for a cat check up at the vets?

Hi all,

we adopted a cat a few weeks ago (1 year old) and sometimes she wees and poos on the sofa, I've changed her litter tray and given her an extra one and she seemed fine for a while and now she wees in her litter tray and then poos on the sofa. I have tried some home remedies and so far nothing has stopped her pooping on the sofa. I've looked online and the advice to make sure she's not got an infection or anything. I'd rather rule this out sooner than later to save her being in pain.

Anyway, how much roughly do you pay for a vet check? She is insured but the excess is £99

My vet charges £38 for a basic consult

sadly the insurance excesses are set above check up fees, you will never be covered for one off simple check ups. usually £30-50 depending on the vet

My cat pees in the box but always poos in the bath, nothing wrong with him other than he's an !!!!. You may have the same problem, but a check up is always the best idea. Hope she's ok.

It could well be stress related, especially if you haven't had her long. Is she showing any other signs of stress? I assume she isn't left home alone that often or for long periods of time?

My rescue cat had some issues with peeing on the sofa when we first got him. Its such hard work but if you can figure out what triggers it you should be able to fix it too. My boy hasn't done it since - we changed his litter, I think the stuff we used before was too hard on his paws, but we also think he was just stressed by the new house and new smells.

Do take her to the vet to be checked though, just to be safe. My vet charges about £35 for a check up.

My vets charge £40 ish or there abouts.

Ring the vets and ask them for a guidline price over the phone.

That seems very expensive for one cat.
My dogs had 2 x kennel cough vaccine and 2 x check ups this past week and that came in @£48 for the two of them.

I would phone around your local vets and see what each practice is charging.

That sounds incredibly cheap at £24 per dog including vaccine , your vet may be the only poor vet in the UK

A cat check up here is £35-£40 personally I wouldn't have taken on a rescue without a check up as soon as I got them though.

Our cat went for a weight check last night, ended up having an injection to try and sedate him slightly (attempted blood tests... Didn't happen!) and we were given a prescription of Nutracalm - all that only cost us £24.70. We are in the north of England, not sure on regional variations.

That's what I was thinking, she's been moved around a lot, she was brought back to the foster home after being brought back from a family that adopted her then adopted by us again. She's not showing any signs of stress, though she is left for a few hours while we are at work. My boyfriend said that she had a poo in her litter tray instead of on the sofa, I came down this morning and she had not peed on the sofa either! :T I'm still probably going to get her checked over, just in case
