My cousin had a weird smell in their utility room for weeks.Described slightly more like parmesan cheese though (I didn't smell it so can't comment on that) ....an electric wire was melting in their fuse/circuit box.Give that a sniff if it's nearby.0

This is a fascinating thread, I'd love to know what the cause was if anyone has a definitive answer? No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.0 -
We've a fishy type smell and that was a plastic light fitting melting - worth looking at the light fittings.0

I have exactly the same problem in my house. It started about a month ago in one of our kitchen floor cupboards. I thought my partner had been rather exuberant in cleaning it but it got worse and he also commented on it. It seems to be in the cupboards where there are holes in the back to allow for sockets or pipes. Not in the other cupboards though. My partner was a plumber and took out a panel in the base of one of these cupboards and found pipes had been boxed in along the floor. He cut into the boxing and found vermiculite around the pipes. This shouldn't cause the smell so he is now going back along the boxing (cutting panels out of the base of the floor cupboards) to re-seal it all in. It seems that the cupboards had been built on the boxing and had tilted so we're hoping this has released the smell. Only time will tell if the smell disappears. We removed all cleaning products from the kitchen so there is no other explanation. We don't have gas and there hasn't been any work done in the road for months. Has anyone on here got to the bottom of it?0
