Amex will usually swap/upgrade/downgrade cards within their own family - so you could change between the two BA cards, or between Amex Green/Gold/Platinum charge cards (not sure if you can do this with the Gold credit card, now they’ve stopped issuing the charge card to new applicants)

Swaps between families, so Gold to Nectar, or BA to Platinum, for example, require a new application, as far as I know, but you could always call them and see if they’ll do it.

I rang them the other week - you can change between types of cards. So I can switch platinum cashback cards, switch platinum and green charge cards, and switch all rewards card (Gold, BA Rewards, Costco etc.)

Got my Amex 3 months ago with the BA Premium Card but only a £1500 limit (I have 4 defaults still so cannot complain too much i suppose). I had read you can ask for 3x limit increase after 3 months and usually goes through, so i hit the window where i can ask for a limit increase this week and asked for £4500 and it was accepted. So if they do give you a lowish limit just try 3x the amount in 3 months time.

Out of all the credit cards i have had over the years the Amex has impressed me the most. As soon as you make a payment it is instantly available to use again (which was very handy spending £12,000 through the card in 3 months with only a £1500 limit). Customer services were great when i phoned them and i have made use of a few of their offers like the spend £40 at Wilkinsons get £10 cash back.

Yes and no.

You can swap between cards of the same type.

For example:

Gold Credit to Rewards cards (both Membership Points Credit Cards)
Gold Charge to Platinum Charge (both Membership Points & Charge Cards)
BA Premium to Free (both BAEC Credit Cards)

Things you cannot do:

Nectar to anything (nothing else earns Nectar!)
CostCo to anything (nothing else earns CostCo vouchers)
Gold Credit to Platinum Charge (both are Membership Points cards, but one is Credit, one is Charge!).
