Tp link wi fi extender

Confused

I have the small TP link 500 plugged into the socket with an ethernet connected to router in the lounge. In the kitchen have another 500 plugged in the socket connected to the tv with an ethernet cable. The signal keeps going on the tv in the kitchen when using the amazon fire stick unless I keep the connecting living room door to the kitchen open.

What can I do? Are the TP LINKS not strong enough? If so what should I get?

TP Link have never been that great. Most hotels use them just cause they are cheap. The door being open shouldn't affect them as they are using the powerline. If you have issues with the electrics in the kitchen that could be causing the issue.

    Is it this one?

    300Mbps AV500 Wi-Fi Powerline Extender?

They have no external antenna which can be a big issue so have poor WiFi signal. But it sounds like they might not be setup in extend mode? The one in the kitchen maybe connected via WiFi to living room. But you want it going through the powerline instead. Also as they only do the 2.4ghz range you'll get lots of interferance from stuff in the kitchen like microwaves, wireless phones etc.

Yes that's the one except its a 500. Microwave affects it too

How do I set them up in extend mode?

    The basic principle is:
The best is all ethernet which would involve running a cable between the two rooms.
The second best is using your powerline. Always worked great for me.
    The third best is wifi.
It sounds as though your TV is on powerline and your Fire stick on Wifi?
    Would this help?

You would have to check compatibility with the various versions. You might have to get an extra power line adapter for the kitchen or get one with more than one ethernet port.
It sounds as if you're Fire Stick has a wireless connection to the router instead of the powerline adapter. Do you need to tell the Fire Stick to look for new wifi and then tell it the adapter's password?

I have a pair of TP Link routers creating a wireless bridge, it took a lot of work getting them going as the instructions on their site did not work.

I also found them a bit weird in config compared to other routers.

Microwaves affect wifi, not sure if all frequencies but an an ethernet connection should resolve

    I connected mine as follows

    I
    T T
    B

    Where

    I is the ISP router
    - is ethernet cable
    T is TP Link
    B is belkin

The belkin is an old N router with 4 ports that I use for media PC and other devices

There is a wireless bridge between the two T's using wireless N and the right most T provides Wireless AC

I have loads of TP-Link kit. It all works as it should and is reliable. If you deviate from the factory presets, then sometimes they can be a bit fiddly to set up, but then I have found that is true of all makes.

I have TpLink WA850REs which work very well for me from one end to the other of a large house. One thing you do need to be careful with is that in your case if you turn the TV on in the kitchen when the nearby TPLink has not connected to the network the TV can get its signal from the other TPLink and will not switch over. So make sure you turn devices on in the right order and wait for them to connect before turning on the next one - router first, then lounge TP Link followed by kitchen TPLink and then TV.

It sounds like you do not have a WiFi router. Is that correct?

I have 3 x BT Whole Home Wi-fi. Apart from a couple of bad firmware releases from BT earlier this year, they have been rock solid and reliable.
