Perished tyres

I purchased a new Fiesta in November last year. By March this year all tyres were perished. The dealer is expecting me to buy new tyres and wait for a refund IF Bridgestone decide they are faulty.
When the perishing was noticed I had done less than 2,500 miles.
I think this is an absurd situation- am I wrong?

Tyres should last much longer than that under normal conditions.
But..... If they have been exposed to particularly harsh cleaning chemicals and then jet washed at high pressure they could be significantly damaged in just a few minutes.
It seems reasonable the dealer needs the replacements paying for pending the claim.0 -
The tyres may also be more than a year old, have a look at the date code to find out when they were made.0

Yep, the usual course of action is to pay for new tyres and send the old ones back to the manufacturer for inspection.0

You're confused? I'm confused! If the tyres were perished by March what have you been doing in the 8 months since then?0

Driving very carefully. I’ve still only done just under 6,000 miles. Their service engineer said he would drive on them.0

consumer law puts the onus on the people who sold you the tyres.0 -

Define perished. Usually it takes a decade or more for them to perish to the point of being dangerous. Perished tyres are generally found on things that don't do a lot of mileage like caravans, car trailers and motorhomes where they'll reach the best by date before the tread wears out.
This is what a perished tyre looks like. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Look at the date mark on the tyre, then go back to the retailer.0 -
After speaking with a RAC legal advisor I threatened to go to their ombudsman and mention my problem on their Facebook page. Miraculously they have ordered four new tyres which will be fitted at no cost to me.
