Why is my gas bill so high?
Options
Good afternoon,
I live in a 3 bedroom terraced house, large dining room and small living room with my husband.
Only the water and central heating is run by gas.
We keep our doors closed when the heating is on. Heating is set to 18degrees from 6pm-9pm but we cancel this majority of the time at 8pm. We wear extra layers at night. We only have the radiator turned on in whichever room we are in.
We bathe 3/7 days a week, shower 4/7. Share the bath water too.
Wash pots 1/2 times a day.
Our bill was £120 with gas at 80 and electric at 40 ish.
It's been like this for the whole year. We assumed it would be cheaper in the summer but only by £20 or so.
We have had the meter checked but it has no fault.
The boiler is rated A+.
We follow every tip yet were watching the bill go up further every month!
Oh also, we recently changed from npower to bulb. As bulb were cheaper rates.

Are your bills based on Actual or Estimated readings ?
Do you read your meter at least every month and keep your own records.
Please post your readings - not the bill, not the DD but kwh actualNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

I think we need more detail from Riisargh5 before we can make constructive comments.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Riisargh5 - a couple of things for you to check.
1) That it's actually your meter - check the serial number on the meter and on the bill.
2) Is the meter a metric one - will be marked m3 ? Does your bill also say m3/Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

Apologies in advance for such a late response. I was having trouble with navigating this website and ended up giving up.
I have changed providers since this post which has been better.
Thank you so much for your responses.0 -

That's all a bit vague Riisargh5. By better do you mean its £119 instead of £120

My bills were based on my readings that I did every so often. (monthly I believe)
Since this is an old thread now and we have since switched providers with a dramatic reduction in cost (£50-60pm) with little to no fluctuations. I'm happy for this thread to be closed.
Thank you very much for your time. X0 -
Costs is that real cost or just an estimated direct debit based upon estimated annual usage .
