Halifax issuing new debit card but old card does not expire until 2021

I am just wondering whether anyone else has experienced this?
I received a new debit card in the post a few weeks ago but ignored it (It's still in the envelope) as my current debit card works perfectly fine and does not expire until 2021.
The new card they sent me also does not expire until 2021, so it's not even like this new card has any benefits.
I'm not sure whether this is related but my current debit card was declined online at Amazon and had been declined in Tesco the same day, but there is money in the account and it shouldn't have expired.
Does anyone know whether once Halifax issue a new card (with no warning) to you then the old one automatically expires despite the expiry date?

Your best bet is to contact Halifax to query it.
I am assuming there was no explanation in the letter that came with the new Debit Card?
Is there any difference between the new card and the old one (e.g. contactless)?
Is the new card definitely for the same account (e.g. I have a current account but also a cardcash account with Halifax)?0 -
Unless there are any new features on the card I would suspect that they have discovered an issue either with your card or with a group of cards, and reissuing it resolves the problem. That might tie in with the declines you've experienced, although I would have expected them to contact you if this is the reason.0

I got a new card too,
no declines or issues with my card.0 -
I called Halifax as suggested (Not sure why I didn't do this before), but they advised that that Ticket Seller had a data breach and therefore they sent all of their customers a new debit card and so the debit card I was using began to phase out and now I need to use my new one.
Odd as the letter it came with didn't state anything at all, only that It was a new debit card! Problem solved0 -
That is really positive proactive fraud prevention by Halifax, unfortunately let down by poor customer communication.0

Might be worth a read it speaks of cards being replaced:
