Help! Renting Flat With Landlords Friend As Neighbour?
Would you move into a place that you knew the neighbour was the landlords friend? I suppose atleast he isn’t dodgy and know who he is.. maybe not a total bum?
Thanks for any advice

Why would this matter?0

I wonder that you are overthinking things here.
I am a LL and rent out the old family home, therfore my tenants live nextdoor and in the neighbourhood where everyone knows me and my family.
Never had a problem.
I have another property that is probably 20 paces from where I now live and I probably see the tenant most weeks exchange a quick hello just as I would with any of the other neighbours and that's it.
My OH also now works with another of our tenants who again neither have an issue with...at the time we rented the property neither worked for the particular company
Just what do you expect to happen?
Look at the situation logically if this LL or any LL has owned a property for a few years the realistic situation is that yes they will know the neighbours even if they only see them during tenant change overs...I would be surprised if a LL didn't know those who live around their properties!(moreso if its a flat than even a house)
But at the end of the day if you feel uncomfortable with the situation that's your decision..but on the face of it in my mind its not worth worrying about, you have a business relationship with your LL and neighbours are a whole different entity that you wont get away from unless you move to a isolated area
If that's your only issue its a small one in the scheme of things.....in S 38 T 2 F 50

If it was a shared house, there might be some cause of concern, but if these are two separate properties, what's the big deal? If you reach a point where you have a dispute with neighbours it's usually a good moment to just move, irrespective of the neighbour relationship to your LL.
I highly doubt there are enough people on here who have been in the same boat for their opinion to be statistically relevant. I'm sure there is at least one horror story for every possible circumstance out there. The question is should that have any bearing on your decision.0 -

Unless you are planning on doing anything that would cause problems for the neighbor (like parties every weekend) then why would it ?
You happen to know they are friends but with any rented property (especially one the landlord has previously occupied) the odds are they will have friends amongst your immediate neighboursI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

The viewpoint I have is that even if the OP were planning on having wild parties every night or indeed doing anything that the friends of the LL may disapprove of,rest assured if it annoys other neighbours not just the friends the LL will be made aware of the situation.

Even if they were to have wild parties every day, that is not grounds for eviction.
It's nothing to do with the Landlord; it's a council issue0 -

Totally agree with you.
a LL is in it for the money OP as long as you pay your rent on time that's one less thing for the LL to worry about...his friend isn't likely to cover the rent of the property you are occupying so why should they influence the LL's decision on other matters of how you conduct your life whilst renting the property?in S 38 T 2 F 50

My son lived in a flat next door to his landlady's daughter.
