I assume they have sent you a fresh bill, itemised with the errors and you concur?
They would still be getting it back over years if it was me.0 -

Don't get excited. I said I would make them wait. Nothing about not paying sunshine.
And I have never stole from the public, have you?0 -

Thank you for replies - I accept that I am liable - I just find it extremely unprofessional and shocking really - you would expect them to notice a shortfall of this amount in the year end of the same year if anything - not 3.5 years later during an audit.
Our solicitor at the time was very patronising and my husband had confirmed the amount owed with him verbally after we received the balance sheet that didn't make sense to us (first time buying/selling) so maybe niave but we trusted the solicitor would be correct.
I have replied to the letter - not refusing to pay and also not offering to pay but just stating how upset and disappointed I am that their incompetence has left us in this situation and said we do not have that sort of disposable cash to just hand over after so long.
Waiting for a response from them now to see whether they offer any amicable solution (i.e paying weekly or a lower final settlement). I do feel as though if this was in the real world and you receive this sort of customer service error most companies would discount the owing amount so we will see how they respond. I will ensure to write a review of my experience with this solicitors and will never use them again - when you pay such a high amount for their services you expect them to be able to add up their sums!0
