Santander being difficult again

For a week or more I have been calling customer services at Santander. They have an automated telephone system. You know the kind of thing, it starts off saying that your call is important to us and finishes proving that it isn't.
Typing in the Customer ID as required results in computer saying they don't recognise it and this did it every time I tried over the past week.
I phoned some other number for help and they are sorry but the system is being upgraded and I will be told about it in a week or two.
More phone calls later and the half baked story I get is that the new customer ID will be 10 digits long and I have one that is 8 digits long.
I am forced to the conclusion that either they should have given me a 10 digit ID by now or not upgraded their system yet. Anyway, it doesn't work.
How's that for a bank.

It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.

It has never recognised my number, so I just keep repeating usually 3 times and then they put me through to a customer service person.
I was told once just keep hitting the zero and they transfer you quite quickly.0 -
