Oakfurnitureland Mattress Odour

Options
Just wanted to post this so hopefully no one else gets caught out.

Purchased a bed and mattresses from Oakfurnitureland the mattress arrived rolled up when you open the packaging there is a note inside saying that they may have an odour, this is an understatement I’ve had one two weeks and it still gives me headaches, Oakfurnitureland will not accept a return even though we have not been able to use it.

I am now stuck with a mattress that is venting gases from the chemicals they have treated it with nowhere on their website does it tell you that this maybe the case.

  • Mattresses can and do sometimes have an odour. Naturally filled ones can have an ‘animal’ smell, Memory foam fillings are renown for having a chemical odour and the FR (fire resistant) treatments applied to mattresses can also smell. With rolled up mattresses these are stored in a plastic bag, sometimes for up to 3 months, and so any odours have little or no chance to escape. Leave the mattress uncovered (no bedding) in a well ventilated room for a couple of days and the smell should go. Although very occasionally unpleasant no harm will come from inhaling any odours.
  • Full credit to Oakfurnitureland they eventually took the mattress back and gave me a full refund.
