This question came up in the shape of the Halifax One Card (15 months 0% on purchases and 6 months 0% on balance transferred) and it did not appear from the terms quoted that one would necessarily be paid ahead of the other.

My view there was that where an order is not stipulated (it being inplicit perhaps that both get paid together by splitting the min payment) the cardholder could ask that their payments be allocated BT first/purchases second. But they should ask for this at the outset and get the CC issuer to write back confirming their request.

It's similar here from the above quoted order of payments which does not appear to spell out which (of two) 'special offers' is actually being paid first. I had a look and can't find any other information about their order of payments so I would proffer that you can ask Tesco at the outset for the same consideration and they may then have fall into line with this later even if their system picks up and start charging interest on non-tesco purchases at three months.

It is clear on the credit card agreement which came with the card. Terms 2(D) (b).

Since this was an old post, I believed OP already sorted it out.
  • Hi All I have had the same problem. Luckily I phoned them and found this out in the first month. I have contacted Trading Standards as I feel that it is not as clear as it should be. I urge others to also contact Trading Standards as the more that do the better protection us and others will receive.
  • Guess what?! Good news! My Tesco credit card came today and ... NO INTEREST!!!

So either it did go to re pricing following my phone calls and they re assessed it, or more likely it was never going to get interest charge in the first place!

Its a bit weird though cos my last statement said 'if you pay only the minimum repayment this month (which I did) your interest charge next month will be £44'. On this months statement it again says 'if you only pay the min payment your interest charge next month will be £33' (??)

I questioned this with the girl last month and she said that this assumes you make a mix of purchases. All mine have been solely purchases at Tesco.

Well I hope this helps someone else out - question it if you think they are wrong and if necessary ask for it to be checked out by the re pricing team.

    Good luck
