So I ve seen many threads on this, the MSE soft search credit checker isnt any good.

I also soft searched and saw cards I could apply for (declined) then cardas I had 0% chance of getting ( got 4). LOADS of cards arent on there too (im guessing dont pay MSE commission such as yorkshire bank, TSB, virgin money, and natwest, Amex.

Are others finding it the same? If so, ill bin it off and stop it soft searching the hell out of my file

Weirdly, i know they 'say' it doesnt affect my file but when I went ot do a 0% transfer on an offer with lloyds, barclays and halifax, they dissappeared within 24 hours when nothign else had changed (they always offer me repeate deals)

Im wondering as tcredit files are all smoke mirrors and magic, they DO look at this recorded information, but ARENT supposed to be using it.

Oddly, when i got an Amex, all the creditors opened their doors to me... so the myth of 'premium lenders' not affecting applications is not a myth (or a hidden one).

Best to go direct to the various credit card websites and use their eligibility checker. I find this gives you a better indication of acceptance.
  • Lenders don't see soft searches or the names of your current providers. So the myth of premium lenders not affecting applications is indeed not a myth, but a general fact.

The only argument you could make is that an associated higher credit limit could influence other lenders.
