When I bought a high mileage car, I decided that spending money on replacing the timing belt was not worthwhile.
It lasted to 124,000 miles and was still going, the last time I looked.

not sure that posting your reg number is a good idea, your better off asking in a VW specific forum whether its belt or chain.
  • If you don't know the correct service schedule then give a VW dealer a call. They will be able to tell you!

The 1.2 60 bhp should be a chain. No need to change it unless it gives problems.

Probably safest to make sure it's not visible to passers-by while you're driving along, too.

Round here some of us address that problem by either sticking gangsta film over the plates, or placing them flat on the dash top. (everybody else just uses someone else's registration) ;)

Rather idiotic view TBH to not spend £200-£300 because its high mileage. You could risk killing a car with another 100,000 miles left in it at a time where sods law dictates you don't have the money to get a replacement.
