Good gardening trouser?

  • Why buy trousers specifically for gardening? Much better to buy over-trousers instead!
I wear showerproof over-trousers for grubby gardening in all but very hot weather, which enables me to wear whatever I like underneath without its becoming filthy. The best under-layer that I've found as a woman is jeggings, which have unparalleled stretch and comfort, fitting easily into even high boots. Cropped trousers or shorts can be substituted in warm weather.

Thanks for reply DiggerUK - maybe I'm a wuss, but I find ordinary trousers don't keep out the brambles, wild roses, hawthorn prunings, etc  which is why I was looking for recommendations of something more like the gardening/outdoor pro might wear...
I might be an outdoor pro as I have 1/2 km of country hedging to maintain, including 200m of native stuff that hasn't seen management for 20 years, though it's getting it now. You're right, nothing keeps out the nasty stuff , but I find safety boots and long johns under my £12 joggers not too awful. The most important thing in my opinion is a good  thick beanie hat.

Climbing over my barbed wire fences and sparks from my bonfires results in frequent holes and tears, so even if i could afford them , I'd not wish to ruin these:

  • I buy ex-army combat trousers, means I can pop things in the pockets too.

Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • Camo here too, but my latest revelation (for suburban gardening) are Ex RAF coveralls. The only problem being you generally can only get them online (ebay) so you have to figure out what base layer they're going over and hope to get lucky with sizing

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?
  • Thanks all for recent comments and suggestions - I'd missed them as I'd dropped off the daily email with the Forums revamp and only just realised that something was missing...
