British Gas renewal or New Customer?

Hi all,
I’ve had a BG Homecare agreement for several years but they seem really reluctant to negotiate the renewal this time. No call outs in 18 months so don’t understand it. They want to charge 80 more this year!

Looking at British Gas online they quote me 200 not the 400 renewal.

Speaking to a quite unhelpful lady I said that I was quoted this on their own website but she was insistent that I couldn’t get that deal. I said I would cancel my contract now and then once the date has passed start a new contract online.

She was adamant that this would not be possible and the system would not allow it! She said I would have to have left BG for a minimum of 6 months. I asked where in the T&Cs it said this but she just replied… it won’t let you.

I have decided to take the plunge and cancel and as soon as i said this she said cheerio I’ve cancelled it! Nice Customer Service.

Does anyone have any experience of this? Has anyone tried it. If I can’t and I’ve shot myself in the foot then there are other providers I know.

Given my experience over the last few days, I would put the money into an account so you can call out an expert if and when you need them. My experience of the Homecare Service has been appalling. I am currently paying £63 per month - if I terminated and joined as a new customer it would be £23. But even at this lower cost I don’t think it is worth it.
