EE Applewatch contract

Hi all,
Bit of a long one, so please bare with me as I really need help/advice on this matter.
My partner signed up to a Apple watch series 3 contract at £18 a month as a Xmas present for his son. As soon as he got home he got a call from his son to say that he no longer wants a Apple Watch. So my partner decided he would return the watch the next day and left it in the back box of his motorbike. He spoke to EE who said he would have to return to store to see what they could do but they should be able to return it for him.
Unfortunately his motorbike got stolen along with the watch! (You couldn't make it up!)
EE are not being helpful at all. They have offered a "rescue" replacement for a extra £100 or he can pay £270 for the price of the watch!
He still has the direct debit set up for £18 which I do not agree he should have to pay as he is no longer in possession of the watch and asking for a extra £100 is unfair.
What can he do?
Thanks for your time.
Jodie

He bought an Apple watch from EE, therefore it must be paid for. The fact that has been stolen is nothing to do with EE, why should they have to take the hit?
Surely this is an insurance matter?0 -
It may be a smartwatch, but the principles are exactly the same as if it had been a phone that was stolen. The loss is not the retailer's fault, it's what insurance is for. The contract will stand.0
